Summary

Brittany and its inhabitants have a complex relationship with the environment. Rich in its biodiversity and its exceptional landscapes, the Breton territory has been – and remains – strongly affected by the artificialization of its coastline, green algae and major development projects.

It is also Brittany which, in all likelihood, was the region of the world most affected by the oil spills.

In addition, from the rejection of nuclear power to the difficult acceptance of wind energy, Brittany is constantly faced with the question of the energy choices best suited to its specificities.

These numerous environmental conflicts, brought about by actors with divergent interests, are regularly found before the courts.

This is the purpose of this symposium: to trace the environmental disputes that have had a particular impact on Brittany in order to identify, if they exist, the common points and the specificities of these disputes compared to those of other regions, while identifying possible innovative litigation solutions that may have influenced the law in general.
